To get your heating system ready for when you need it, there are some important steps that you should take now.
Change Your Air Filters
We had some fairly substantial monsoon storms this past summer. If you haven’t already, replace all of your air filters before you turn on your heater. This will help minimize dust, mold, and other particulates being forced through your system and into your inside air.
Schedule An Air Duct Cleaning
Your air duct system, like your air filters, needs to be regularly cleaned. All of the debris that ended up in your system due to summer storms is now sitting in your ductwork. Have it cleaned out, and you’ll improve your inside air while increasing the lifespan of your entire home comfort system.
Check Your Thermostat
When was the last time you changed the settings on your thermostat? Are you sure it’s working at all? Thermostats run on batteries. So, it’s a good time to replace the battery for the season and check to see if it is working as it should be. If not, it’s a quick fix that can make a difference when you do actually need to turn on the heat.
Remove Clutter Around Your Heating Vents
One of the most common sources of house fires in the US is combustible material near a heater. Before you turn on your heater, make sure to clear a space around the vents so that there is no chance that the heat can start a fire. Make sure to check spare bedrooms and hallways that may often get overlooked.
